The firing range of a particular product will depend upon a number of parameters. The main elements of the firing cycle that effect product performance are peak temperature, length of firing cycle, time at peak and kiln atmosphere. Hence a fast fire kiln will have a different impact to that of a conventional kiln. The firing profile up to 400°C affects the burn out of the organic portion of a formulation while the later part of the firing influences the physical characteristics of the fired film.
Maintaining an oxidising atmosphere with good kiln ventilation is important particularly through the early stages of firing. The firing range of a product will be affected by the softening temperature of the glaze/glass and the weight of application of the product.
